After intense and unexpected rain fell in the north of Chile,
 parts of the usually arid Atacama desert have turned into a
carpet of flowers.
The "desierto florido" (flowering desert) phenomenon usually occurs
 every five to seven years when rains cause buried seeds to germinate
 and flower.
But this bloom comes just two years after a a particularly colourful flowering
 in 2015.

A US couple says they can see Jesus Christ watching over their child in a pregnancy ultrasound.
The Pennsylvania pair said a man dressed in a robe with a crown of thorns is looking at their baby from the far left of the image.
"When they gave it to us, um, to me it's Jesus," mother Alicia Zeek told a local news station.
She said the ultrasound gave them comfort after complications with two other pregnancies.

India's top court has ruled the practice of instant divorce in Islam unconstitutional, marking a major victory for women's rights activists.
In a 3-2 majority verdict, the court called the practice "un-Islamic".
India is one of a handful of countries where a Muslim man can divorce his wife in minutes by saying the word talaq (divorce) three times.
The landmark court decision came in response to petitions challenging the so-called "triple talaq" custom.

The California jury's decision marks the largest award yet in a string of lawsuits that claim the firm did not adequately warn about cancer risks from talc-based products.
A spokeswoman for Johnson & Johnson defended the products' safety.
The firm plans to appeal, as it has in previous cases.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has fixed minimum cut off marks for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria was set for 120, polytechnics and colleges of education pegged at 100, while that of innovative enterprising institutes was pegged at 110.
Institutions are, however, at liberty to raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum set by JAMB.

The Ogun State police command has arrested nine cultists who were reported on the run and have all have confessed to being members of the Eiye fraternity at Iperu Remo and Isara areas of the state.
The recent arrest comes a months after the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) had raided the base of the cultists at Iperu Remo, a group which is being led by one Taiwo Oluwaseun Boyeko popularly known as Omo Ile Aje.

An auxiliary nurse, Mrs. Folashade Idoko, has been accused of stabbing her husband to death in Lagos. The incident occurred around 11p.m. on Sunday at their Ayetoro residence in Oto-Awori Local Council of the state.

It was gathered that the deceased allegedly suffered years of domestic violence from his wife but kept quiet about it. The couple have two children, a three-year-old boy and one-year old girl.

Train derailment in India kills more than 20


At least 23 people have been killed and dozens injured after at least eight carriages of a train derailed in northern India.
Carriages slammed into each other as the train came off the rails near Muzaffarnagar district, in the state of Uttar Pradesh and about 80 miles north of India's capital New Delhi.
The train had been heading to the Hindu holy city of Haridwar.
Anand Kumar, a senior police officer in the state, said more than 80 people were injured.
